Happy Spring to you!
I thought perhaps I’d talk about my forthcoming book this time. I know I have mentioned it a couple of times, but I haven’t told you very much about it’s content. There is a good reason for this. As the book is written it becomes tangible, and the flow and character of the book reveals itself through the writing process. I wasn’t sure how it was going to be. But now I am in the ‘first edit’ phase where it is coming together nicely, and I can share something about it with you.
So what is it all about?
My intention is for this book to be inspiring, encouraging and empowering for artists who are either wanting to take their work further, or they are already doing that but are stuck somewhere. Art includes crafts and is a large sector with painters, sculptors, potters, knitters and much, much more.
Each chapter talks about an important and significant step on the creative journey to help the artist be true to themselves and their creativity. My whole mission is to enable artists to find their own way that is right for them so they can be the artists they want to and are meant to be. Too often artists are discouraged and limited by their internal talk and the opinions of others. Having been down that road for so long, I know how important it is to express yourself freely. As a child I had always wanted to be an artist but I was discouraged by teachers and parents to get a proper job that offers security. I did just that but eventually found myself back at the easel on a regular basis in my late 30’s. As time passed I painted more and made myself known to galleries and exhibition opportunities. I studied hard in art and business so that I could make a successful job of being an artist. Now I am a full-time artist and I know I will do this for the rest of my life, and the thought of not having a retirement date is fabulous – I can work until I can no longer hold a brush. I am in my mid 40s now, so I have a long time ahead of me to keep painting and making a difference.
Developing Your Inner Artist
“Building up a dream is like building a room;
the foundation must be deep, strong, firm and dependable.”
The book looks at being an artist in a holistic way because everything affects the success of being one. I explore the mental, physical, environmental and spiritual aspects of being an artist, so that being on the creative path and taking the steps make sense as a whole.
Each chapter is filled with information, inspirations, actions to take and testimonials from other currently active artists who share their thoughts and experiences. I intend this book to be a source of inspiration and guidance that can be used over and over. It may be that the process takes a very short time, but it may also take longer than expected. Everyone is different and at a different stage on their creative journey. Once read and acted upon, I would also love this book to be a ‘dip into’ book that can continue to provide positive tools and processes to aid development and results.
The book is due out in the autumn. There will also be an online course to take to compliment the book. I dare say there will be workshops at some point too!
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed learning about my book – I will keep you updated and maybe share with you some sneak peaks.
